Great SUV of Mahindra: A Quick Look


Sports Utility Vehicles or SUVs tell of aggression, robust engine power and all terrain driveability. And in this segment, Mahindra and Mahindra company happens to rule the roost with its powerful SUVs that criss-cross the length and breadth of the country. In fact, the SUVs from the company named Scorpio, Bolero and XUV500 are held in high esteem by the customers and have steadfastly held on to their pole positions despite the presence of brands like Tata, Nissan, Renault and Ford. Scorpio


This has been the flagship model for the company for many years since its inception and now, it comes in a facelifted version. The latest S2 variant of Scorpio boasts of a 2.5 litres 2523cc 4 cylinders 16V turbocharged m2DICR CRDe I-4 diesel power mill churning out 75bhp at 3200rpm of peak power and 200Nm at 1400 – 2200rpm of peak torque, respectively. Also, the model comes in 8 trim levels namely, S2, S10 4WD, S10, S4, S6 Plus, S8, S4 4WD and S6. Moreover, the variants that carry a mHawk engine churn out 118bhp of maximum power and 280Nm of maximum torque. The new Scorpio can reach a maximum of 150kmph and returns an impressive mileage of 15.3kmpl. Looks wise, the new Scorpio incorporates elegant features such a new grille with chrome accents, projector headlights, a bonnet scoop, 17 inches alloy wheels and a two tone rear appliqué.


Mahindra XUV500


This is the most advanced SUV from the stable of Mahindra and Mahindra and comes in 5 trim levels – W8 FWD Sportz, W4 FWD, W6 FWD, W8 AWD and W8 FWD respectively. Boasting of a mileage of 13.5kmpl (as per ARAI) and Mahindra XUV500 Price range of Rs.10.72 lakhs to Rs.15.15 lakhs (Ex Showroom, Delhi), this SUV is driven by a 2.2 litre mHawk diesel powertrain that churns out 140bhp at 3750rpm of power and 330Nm at 1600 – 2800rpm of torque.  The engine is further mated to a 6 speed 2WD or AWD transmission gearbox. The build quality of this SUV is styled on the characteristics of a pouncing Cheetah. It boasts of alloy wheels, twin exhausts, projector headlamps, and adjustable ORVMs in its exterior, and a fully loaded GPS navigation system, a driver information system and an intellipark reverse parking system as parts of its interior. Lastly, the vehicle is available in the colour options of Arctic Blue, Tuscan Red, Volcano Black, Satin White, Moondust Silver, Opulent Purple, and Dolphin Grey.


Mahindra Bolero


Available in 7 variants, Mahindra Bolero is powered by two types of engines - a 2.5 litres 2523cc m2DiCR diesel power mill that produces 65bhp of power and 195Nm of torque, and a 2.5 litres 2523cc DI turbocharger diesel power mill producing 63bhp at 3200rpm of power and 180Nm at 1440 – 1500rpm of torque respectively. The engines are mated to a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox that effectively transfers torque to the front wheels. Furthermore, the m2DiCR engine returns a mileage between 8 to 11kmpl and the DI engine returns a mileage between 10 to 13kmpl. In terms of safety, Mahindra Bolero is conferred with ABS, airbags, impact protection beams, engine immobilizer, and child safety locks to name a few.
